Nepal- Sister&Brother Tika

Today was Saturday. Saturday means Sherpa Market as it`s only open on this day. Paula hasn`t been there yet so we decided to go their for breakfast.

But we had to be back at 11.50 because today was a very special day for the kids. Today it was the day where sister and brother exchange Tika between each other in a whole ceremony. She we walked to the Market at 9.30. Luckily Paula`s leg has almost completely healed now so she can walk longer distances again. The market was quite nice, as always. But today there were much less people who sold food. I think this was due to the festival. But still we had a nice breakfast. I had Vietnam spring rolls (sooo delicious!!) and yogurt out of clay pots. I`ve never tried it because to be honest it never looked that tasty... but it really was!! I`ve never had such good yogurt!!

Then we walked back and were right in time for the ceremony. They had put the table in the living room, lots of plates with food on it. At the place, where the table used to stand were carpets on the floor and all the boys had to sat down on it. Then the girls (the "sisters") started to walk around them 3 times while spilling water and oil on the floor. After this they put Tika, flowers and coloured sand on the knees, shoulders and the head.. Then they put Tika on the forehead. This time it wasn`t just the red coloured rice but lots of colours which formed a line in the end. It looked so funny and nice. Then the girls put eyeliner on the boy`s eyes. They looked really hilarious now. Then everyone got a necklace out of flowers and one of the plates with food (nuts, dry fruits, apple, bananas, roti, sweets) then the ceremony for the boys was over. Paula and me did the same with Raaj so basically we are his "sister" now.

Then it was the girls` turn. But the girls and we only got the red tika, flowers, a flower necklace, money and the plate of food. So this ceremony was a lot quicker.

After all of it we went downstairs and just relaxed a bit.

The next day (22.10.17) we just stayed at home, went out for some coffee and played with the kids. And I started planning the time after Mexico. Josh and me decided to probably make a roadtrip, starting in LA and driving down into the south of America. In the evening all of the kids went to Janardan`s  house to dance and sing there as well.
